Throughout life, we are confronted by change, often abrupt and unforgiving. At other times quite predictable and self-imposed. Regardless, the transition between life's milestones is often celebrated by considering optimistically what the future may hold. Be it a new life with a spouse or a change of career. But let's be honest. Life never really turns out the way it was meant to. So let's not celebrate what could be, but bereave what was, with the despairing words of the late Bill Paxman...
