Try reciprocating with something deemed to be below par and see how you are scorned by society. There is always a price to pay.
Fuck it let's get beyond this crazy cycle of obligation exchange. Make a stand and break the circle of madness. Resolve that simple good sentiment is sufficient to celebrate whatever it is you happen to be celebrating. Be thankful that you have something worthy of the festivities. Surely that is the best gift of all.
